A new report by BSH researcher Kuni Kamizaki examines how community land trusts can transform Canada’s housing landscape. The research identifies the model’s core advantages for creating permanently affordable housing and provides a comprehensive policy framework to help governments implement this community-controlled approach. By keeping land in public or community hands while allowing private homeownership, the community land trust model offers a proven pathway toward housing equity and long-term affordability that could reshape Canada’s housing system. This research, done in partnership with the Canadian Network for Community Land Trusts (CNCLT), can serve as a blueprint for policy makers and CLTs alike to grow and expand the CLT sector.
