Lauren Brown

Senior Policy Analyst, Aboriginal Housing Management Association

The Aboriginal Housing Management Association (AHMA) is the first Indigenous Housing Authority in Canada and was created for the Indigenous community by the Indigenous community.

AHMA works in direct partnership with the Province of BC and is the leading voice in advocating for Indigenous people and also manages the operating contracts for the new projects developed under the Indigenous Housing Fund.

Lauren Brown, PhD, is a Senior Policy Analyst at the Aboriginal Housing Management Association (AHMA), where she focuses on advancing housing equity for Indigenous communities across British Columbia. Dedicated to addressing systemic housing challenges through research, policy analysis, and advocacy, Lauren’s interdisciplinary background spans environmental and food justice to housing and homelessness policy in the Global North, emphasizing the complexities of emergency shelters. She advocates for understanding these issues within the broader contexts of colonization, racial capitalism, and global housing inequities. By framing the housing crisis through these lenses, Lauren highlights the nuanced and systemic forms of violence embedded in current policies.
